Frequently Asked Questions

Herbal Medicines

Q. What if I am already taking medications from my doctor?
A. A Medical Herbalist will not expect you to stop this medication, and will prescribe Herbal Medicines appropriately in light of the medications that you are taking.

Q. Does my GP need to know that I am taking Herbal Medicines?
A. It is entirely up to you whether or not you share this information with your GP.  Anything you tell us at Foreman & Jones is of course strictly confidential.  We are happy to liaise with your GP about your treatment if you wish.

Q. What will the medicine taste like?
A. Herbal Medicines are made from totally natural plant material.  There are no artificial sweeteners or flavourings to cover up the taste because these substances are totally unnatural, unnecessary and toxic to the body.  Normally a patient will only need to consume 1-2tsp of medicine at a time, so the taste is not an issue for most people.

Q. What about side effects?
A. There are no side effects from Herbal Medicines.  The only reports of adverse effects have come from people self-medicating.  This is because they may have an incomplete understanding of the herbs their body needs.  Every herb does not suit every person.  It is the role of the qualified Medical Herbalist to understand both the patient and the medicine and match the two seamlessly.

Q. How many sessions will I need?
A. The number of sessions required will depend very much upon the nature of the complaint and the specific requirements of the individual receiving treatment. Typically someone receiving Herbal treatment will have between three and eight sessions. Once progress has become established, repeat prescriptions may be appropriate.

Reflexology

Q. Will it tickle? Will it be painful?
A. No. A reflexology treatment incorporates specific techniques which involve firm pressure. This does not tickle and isn’t painful. Some areas may be tender, and this is a normal finding and is understood by your practitioner.

Q. How will I feel after a treatment?
A. It is quite common for a patient to feel deeply relaxed and sometimes sleepy. For this reason it is a good idea to schedule your appointment when you can relax for the rest of the day.

Hypnotherapy / NLP

Q. What is the difference between stage hypnosis and hypnotherapy
A. The two are hardly related. There is a lot of showmanship in stage hypnosis and the hypnotist makes it appear as if the ‘subject’ is ‘under their power’. This is not in fact the case. In Hypnosis you are in control at all times and will never do anything you do not want to do. If this is a concern of yours then it is best to talk this through with Hayley before your session.

Q. Could you change me in ways I don’t want to change?
A. Hypnosis is a cooperative venture, you undertake the treatment because you want to. Equally, you respond to the suggestions and ideas from the therapist because you want to. Your own mind prevents you from changing in ways you don’t want to or behaving in ways that are not right for you.

Q. How will it feel?
A. In Hypnosis you will feel deeply relaxed and safe. Many people report that they feel more relaxed than they’ve ever felt before.
