Herbal Medicine

Seeing a Medical Herbalist isn’t just about being prescribed medicine and being left to it. It is about a focused, professional approach tailored individually to you. This treatment evolves over time until it is no longer needed, leaving you with lasting wellbeing.

People consult a Medical Herbalist for any health complaint that they might otherwise have taken to their doctor. This is because Medical Herbalists are trained to diagnose and examine you in just the same way. The difference is the treatment.

Treatment from a Medical Herbalist takes your whole being into account. Our bodies are complex systems, and each part of the system has an effect on the other parts. It is only by treating the system as a whole that true health and wellbeing can be achieved.

How do we do this?

The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that 4 billion people (80% of the world population) presently use Herbal Medicine for some form of primary health care.

Many people do not realise that qualified Medical Herbalists exist, and are often surprised to find that it has taken us at Foreman & Jones four years each to study for our degrees in Herbal Medicine.

When used by trained professionals, Herbal Medicines promote wellbeing on many levels and therefore the help you receive is far more than purely symptom relief. Herbal Medicines work in harmony with the body, supporting its own healing capacity in order to restore good health.

Of course, with hundreds of herbs to choose from, it can be difficult to know where to start. This is where you need a Medical Herbalist.

What happens when I see a Medical Herbalist at Foreman & Jones?

Your first appointment with us is very important. All people are individual, and in order to apply our Herbal Medicines effectively it is important that we understand the complexities of your health thoroughly. We set aside an hour of our time for this first appointment so that we can gain a clear picture of the problems you are experiencing. Setting this time aside to listen means that we can arrive at a suitable diagnosis and give effective treatment.

After a thorough consultation, your unique prescription is made on the premises, so that you can start the healing process immediately. The remedies employed are prepared from whole plants as nature intended and therefore do not cause side-effects.

An appointment is recommended two to three weeks after the initial visit and at monthly intervals thereafter. These appointments allow the patient and practitioner to discuss the progression of the treatment. The herbalist may then alter the prescription according to the patient’s changing needs. The number of visits varies depending upon the requirements of the patient.

Herbal Medicine is a safe and effective choice for all, including pregnant and breastfeeding women, and to treat babies, children and the elderly.

Dear Hayley,
I felt I must write and thank you for your wonderful treatment. As an ex-nurse I must admit I was a little sceptical regarding herbal treatments. Your initial consultation with me put most GPs to shame; my own GP barely looks up from his desk and has never taken my blood pressure even though I am now 57! I was suffering from the worst case of bronchitis I have ever experienced. Despite antibiotics prescribed by my GP, after 7 days I was getting worse. The slightest exertion rendered me breathless and most of my nights were spent sitting up and coughing. After only two days of your treatment the results were miraculous. I can breathe again! In future my health matters are in your hands and I shall not hesitate to recommend you to all and everyone.

With many thanks and love for the future (which should be assured!) from a very grateful
Jan, Dover, Kent.

Dear Jodie,
After being diagnosed with PCOS and having recently got married, we started trying for a family expecting it to take years or need intervention. After being on the pill for nearly 10 years and having a regular cycle, I started to get concerned when I either didn't have a period or they were up to 9 weeks apart. After only a few months treatment from Jodie my cycle began to regulate and I conceived after only 5 months. I also used herbal medicine for pain relief and to kick start my contractions during labour when they slowed down. I was able to have a perfectly normal delivery at home with no medical intervention which was my wish come true. I honestly believe that without Jodie's help I wouldn't have fallen for my son so quickly or naturally. It is a testament to the faith I have in her that I used her medicine during my labour and I cannot ever thank her enough for her support and help with my pregnancy and labour.

Dear Jodie,
When we first consulted Jodie we were despairing. Our 2 and a half year old daughter was being treated with high dose laxatives for sporadic and unexplained episodes of constipation and diarrhoea. Coupled with this she was generally unwell, lethargic, had a poor appetite and pallor and was a clingy, whiney child, quite different from the contented happy baby we had first had. Despite our repeated requests, conventional medicine seemed unable or unwilling to investigate any underlying cause.

Thankfully a work colleague who had previously consulted Jodie recommended her to us. From our first appointment with Jodie, we felt instantly reassured by her approach. She was extremely through in her investigations and was interested in every aspect of our daughter and her health.

Within a month, Maisie was vastly improved and within 3 months her episodes of bowel disruption were getting fewer and fewer and she was no longer requiring laxatives. Throughout the last year Jodie has supported us all every step of the way, adjusting Maisie's medication and counselling us through any difficult patches.

Now, a year after first consulting Jodie, our little girl is back to the healthy, happy, smiling little angel that she was before. She has boundless energy and enthusiasm, a raging appetite and is cheeky and lively, just as she should be. There really is no way a year ago, we could have envisaged this change in her. Thanks to Jodie, we as a result, are now able to enjoy our daughter again.

Jodie's genuinely sympathetic and caring approach together with her excellent knowledge of this field means you feel confident that she will always know what treatment to give in any circumstances. We would recommend her to anyone.
